What should I wear to No-Gi classes?
For No-Gi classes, you should wear a rash guard (a tight-fitting, moisture-wicking shirt) and shorts. Some students prefer to wear compression shorts underneath for added comfort. Although there is an ideal way to dress for No-Gi we do not have a formal dress code. You can wear an exercise shirt, shorts or leggings.
We ask that you dress appropriately so that you are free to train comfortably. Avoid clothing with zippers, pockets, or anything that could be hazardous during training.
Do I need any previous experience in Jiu Jitsu to join?
No prior experience is necessary to start Jiu Jitsu. Our classes are designed to accommodate all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.
How often should I train to see progress?
For noticeable progress, we recommend training 2-3 times a week. Consistency is key in Jiu Jit Su, and regular attendance will help you improve your skills and technique more effectively.
Are there any prerequisites for joining Smart Jits Florida?
You’ll need to complete a waiver and we ask that you fill out our new member form so that we can get to know you better, and learn your goals so we can help you reach them.
Do you offer trial classes?
Yes, we offer a free trial class for newcomers. This allows you to experience our training environment and see if Smart Jits-FL is right for you before committing to a membership.
What are your class schedules and how can I sign up?
Class schedules are available here on our website, we offer multiple classes throughout the week.
Do you provide any sparring or rolling opportunities?
Yes, sparring (or rolling) is an integral part of our Jiu Jitsu classes. It allows you to apply techniques in a live setting and improve your skills. Sparring can be expected as a part of every class and is conducted in a safe and controlled manner under the supervision of our instructors. New members with NO prior grappling experience are asked to commit up to 8 weeks of learning Jiu Jitsu fundamentals with us before engaging in full time live rolling. This is encouraged in order for us to provide a high level of safety and satisfaction for all of our students.
What are the class fees and membership options?

Are there any age or fitness level requirements?
Our Jiu Jitsu classes are open to adults of all ages and fitness levels. Our instructors will guide you through the instruction to suit individual needs and abilities.

Class Etiquette
At our gym, we believe in fostering a community where everyone can thrive. Our classes are designed to empower individuals of all skill levels through the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Respect the Space: Keep the mat area clean and organized, including picking up any equipment after use.
Punctuality: Arrive on time for class to avoid disruption.
Communicate: Verbally communicate any injuries or physical limitations to your partner before training.
Control: Roll at an appropriate intensity level for your partner's skill and experience
Tap Early: Respect your partner's submissions by tapping early and clearly when caught.
No Ego: Approach training with humility and a willingness to learn from all partners, regardless of rank or experience.
Cleanliness: Maintain good hygiene to ensure the comfort and safety of your training partners.
Keep Nails Short: Trim fingernails and toenails short to minimize the risk of scratching or injuring training partners.
Tie Back Hair Securely: Keep hair tied back securely to prevent it from becoming a hazard during training.
No Bare Feet in the Bathroom: It's crucial to never enter the bathroom barefoot. Always wear appropriate footwear, such as flip-flops or sandals, to prevent the spread of bacteria and fungi from the bathroom floor to the training area. This policy helps maintain hygiene standards and ensures a clean environment for all practitioners.
Wearing Shoes Off the Mat: When off the mat, always wear appropriate footwear, such as flip-flops or sandals.
No Jewelry: Remove all jewelry, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, before stepping onto the mat. Jewelry can cause injury to oneself and others during training.
